“Kakoak” Dance

“Kakoak” is a bird species that only exists in Timor-Leste. The “Kakoak” bird has a courageous character and can live in any habitat. It is ready to face challenges in order to protect its nest from predators and thus has survived over many centuries.
The “kakoak” dance expresses the meaning of Timorese celebrating victory after returning home from battle. It is a way to pay respect to the souls/spirit for their support in gaining victory. This dance is named “kakoak” as the bird name is a symbol of courage in Timor-Leste.
